Father of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz shares details of kidnapping for first time since his release
Both of the midfielder’s parents have returned to their native Colombia unscathed by the guerrilla organization that besieged them.
Luis Manuel Diaz, the father of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, has recounted his twelve-day captivity at the hands of an insurgent group in his native Colombia.
Diaz Sr. and his spouse, Cilenis Marulanda, were captured by the National Liberation Army (ELN) rebels on October 28. Police quickly apprehended Marulanda after releasing her, whereas Diaz was detained for nearly two weeks prior to his release on Thursday.
Subsequently, he disclosed to the local press that he plans to remain in his place of origin, and that despite receiving favorable treatment, he was forced to endure “a great deal of quite difficult horseback riding, numerous mountains, and rain” for twelve days.
“There was no offer of resources [money],” indicated Diaz. “None of that was necessary. Thankfully, everything was conducted in accordance with the law.
“It was very difficult, almost 12 days without sleep,” he elaborated. “While the treatment was satisfactory, I was not at ease. My belongings, children, community, and acquaintances all missed me.
“The abductors advised me to maintain my composure and assured me of my safety, citing my civic duty and reputation in my community as evidence that I would be protected. It was stated that every effort would be made to ensure my release in the near future.
“I perceived it firsthand, and that is how I felt about it. They made every effort to ensure that I was released yesterday [Thursday] and reunited with my family, as well as to ensure that all is well in Europe, including my family and sons. “Vastum God I am present.”
Diaz, a standout for Liverpool, and his father have had conversations. Last weekend, the midfielder equalized for Luton Town in the 95th minute while displaying an undershirt that read “Freedom for Papa” in Spanish.
Diaz Sr. disclosed that his son had advised him to “remain resilient in the face of adversity and to summon considerable fortitude to recuperate from all that has transpired.”
When asked whether he plans to relocate to England, Diaz responded, “My goal is to remain in my hometown, where my entire family resides, including the cemeteries of my father and mother. The majority of my family resides in Barranca. “The government has provided me with tremendous assistance; I am confident that Barranca’s security will permit me to remain.”
Throughout the ordeal, Diaz had numerous jewelry items seized from him, including his wedding ring. Monsignor Ceballos, the initial rescue party member to communicate with Diaz, is a prelate of the Roman Catholic faith. He reported that Diaz requested to “marry him again.”
“He informed me that I was required to remarry him because he had lost his ring,” Ceballos explained. He declared his intention to reaffirm his matrimonial commitments.
“They were not mere frivolous possessions.” Primarily, they possessed immense sentimental worth.”
