Fans’ responses as Big Blue Nation’s first heartbreak happens under Mark Pope
It’s no longer the honeymoon part for Big Blue Nation; their new head coach, Mark Pope, and their whole new team have finally lost. Kentucky basketball wasn’t supposed to lose every game this season, but the first one still hurts. It was Kentucky’s first real test on the road, and they looked shaky, especially when they weren’t making shots or getting calls against them.
What did Big Blue Nation do when they lost the first Pope? They did a lot of different things. They said things like “let’s hope we learn from this” and “Mark Pope let us down.” Some people blamed the referees, while others said it was the players’ fault. It was a bit of a mixed bag for Kentucky fans who just lost their first game of the year.
Thanks to Clemson and their fans. The crowd was really annoying and loud the whole night, and Clemson played tough, especially with their big guys. Those players didn’t stop. They fought for every board, even when a player from Kentucky got it first. They fought all the time. Clemson won that game because they worked hard and were energetic.
The way Clemson threw off the flow and looked from behind the arch was also very good. Kentucky only made 7 of 27 three-point shots, which is bad for a team that takes pride in being able to shoot.
“Hopefully they learn from it” is a theme that runs through all of Big Blue Nation. You can lose early in the football season and still have a good year, but teams don’t go perfect in basketball. They lose some games, but they learn from them and get better as the year goes on. Even though Kentucky’s first road test was tough, some people think it may have helped them get ready for their game against Gonzaga on Saturday.
