Fabrizio Romano confirms no talks on a new Arsenal contract for sensational midfielder so far
Many Arsenal supporters questioned whether the club should have spent approximately £12 million on Jorginho.
How does one transition from Moises Caicedo recruiting attempts to Jorginho signings? (Were no other options available?)
In spite of this, Jorginho has made every effort in recent months to win over Arsenal supporters. Fortunately, if his recent performances have taught Mikel Arteta anything, it is that he can be relied upon to execute his strategy on the field. Both as a No. 6 and as an on-field coach, he has flourished. This season, Arteta has relied heavily on the Italian in crucial contests, employing him to alleviate Rice of his defensive responsibilities so that the ex-Hammer could play with greater freedom of expression.
And as his influence has begun to be felt at the Emirates, Arsenal has been urged to contemplate his long-term prospects. Next summer, the former Blues player is expected to become a free agent, and some teams may be interested in acquiring him.
However, in an update on his Caught Offside column, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano addressed Jorginho’s situation at Arsenal, stating that while Jorginho and Arsenal have not yet discussed a new contract, Romano is aware that Mikel Arteta relies on and requires him as a member of his squad. This may prompt Arsenal to consider securing Jorginho’s long-term contract with the club, but not at this time.
“Jorginho’s agent has also commented on the player’s future, implying contract negotiations have stalled,” Romano wrote.
“However, based on my understanding, no negotiations regarding a new contract took place; he got on eight months ago, so it was never a significant subject.”
“He is a member of Arsenal’s rotations, and no changes are anticipated; additionally, Arsenal and Arteta require his services due to Partey’s injury.”
Is it probable that Jorginho will re-sign a contract this summer, or is Arsenal more interested in acquiring a fresher substitute?
