EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham’s initial offer for Man United’s star transfer target has been rejected despite personal terms being agreed

Brentford has reportedly rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s initial offer for Manchester United striker Ivan Toney.

United are enthusiastic about improving the number nine position on the pitch this summer. Rasmus Hojlund demonstrated considerable potential during the 2023/24 season; however, considering his youth, it is unreasonable to anticipate that he will consistently serve as the team’s line leader.

United also require quality depth in the front, particularly in light of the fact that Anthony Martial is scheduled to depart Old Trafford upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the current month.

In addition to Toney, United have been associated with other goal scorers, including Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon), Matheus Cunha (Wolves), Joshua Zirkzee (Bologna), and Benjamin Sesko, who recently signed a new contract to extend his tenure at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.

Toney scored four goals and provided two assists in the 17 Premier League matches he participated in last season, following his return from an eight-month betting suspension for violating the Football Association’s gambling regulations.

The Brentford talisman is believed to be a topic of great admiration for Erik ten Hag, and a previous report by The Peoples Person indicated that the Bees are seeking £60 million to part ways with him. United has declined to exceed £40 million for a player who has reached the final year of his contract, according to reports.

United are not the sole organisation that is interested in recruiting Toney. Brentford promptly rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s offer for him, as reported by Football Transfers.

The outlet reports that Brentford rejected Tottenham’s offer for Ivan Toney, who has already verbally agreed to personal terms with the team, according to FootballTransfers.

“Sources indicate that Spurs’ £40 million offer was rejected by the West London club, despite the fact that the England international has accepted a wage offer.” Brentford is seeking a fee of £65 million; however, it is believed that a bid of £55 million would be sufficient to finalise the agreement.

“We have been informed that Spurs possess the financial resources to outbid any competitors for the Bees’ hitman.” Nevertheless, the Lilywhites intend to increase their prospects of securing Champions League football next season by bringing in five new signings, necessitating the prudent management of the available funds.

Tottenham is not the sole team that is competing with United for Toney.

Tottenham and Eze’s representatives are scheduled to engage in negotiations at the conclusion of this week, according to Football Transfers. Additionally, Ange Postecoglou’s team is pursuing Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze.
