EXCLUSIVE: Manchester City could repeat Kevin De Bruyne masterclass with Pep’s target
Pep is preparing to acquire a gifted German striker who is currently making ripples at Wolfsburg.
Pep Guardiola is currently in the process of bolstering his squad with the next generation, and Manchester City has already secured one of the most talented youth players in the world, Claudio Echeverri, from River Plate.
Is it possible that he is pursuing an additional player who is currently creating waves on the continent? City is currently in pursuit of the most exceptional youthful talent in Europe.
City are considering a summer pursuit of Wolfsburg adolescent Dženan Pejčinović, according to the German outlet Kicker.
The teenager was reportedly on City’s radar during his time at the Augsburg academy before he relocated to Wolfsburg in 2022.
Guardiola’s talent may render the investment beneficial, despite the fact that he is required to spend in order to secure his services, as his contract extends until 2027.
He will not be the first player to transfer from the German club to City; Kevin De Bruyne made the same move nearly a decade ago, and it has been a successful transition.
De Bruyne had an exceptional tenure at the Volkswagen Arena, scoring 57 goals and assisting in 73 games and claiming the DFB Pokal in 2015. He joined the City revolution that summer.
In the nine years since then, the Belgian international has made nearly 400 competitive appearances for the club, netting 102 goals and accumulating 170 assists.
During his tenure at Manchester, De Bruyne has established himself as one of the most exceptional players of his generation, having secured six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Although the 32-year-old joined City as an established player, Pejcinovic will not have the same reputation if he were to join.
In fact, the 19-year-old has only made five senior appearances for Wolfsburg during the early phases of his career.
However, it is in the youth age groups that his genuine potential has been demonstrated. In fact, the German has scored 47 goals in 61 matches for both the Augsburg and Wolfsburg academy teams, a rate of one goal per 1.3 matches. This is an exceptional ratio.
The adolescent consistently scores goals, and it is not limited to the club level. Pejcinovic has scored twice for the U16s, 17 times for the U17s, and ten times for the U18s during his tenure with the German youth sides at the international level. He has now scored nine goals in just nine matches for the U19 side.
It is no surprise that Football Talent scout Jacek Kulig praised him as a “natural goalscorer” when he praised his achievements for his country. There is no doubt that the youngster is on a path to glory.
He may not be guaranteed a regular first-team spot at City next season. However, if Guardiola does secure his services, the Spaniard may loan him back to Wolfsburg in the hopes that he can make a breakthrough in the German top division during 2024/25.
The German striker has an exceptional future, despite the fact that the signing may be somewhat overlooked in comparison to the other transfer business that City is expected to conduct this summer.
