EXCLUSIVE: Bruno Fernandes’ reaction as Manchester United announce departure of 22yr old from the club

Earlier this week, Manchester United announced that Facundo Pellistri had left the team for Panathinaikos in a deal that totalled £6.8 million with add-ons.

Throughout his four years at the team, the Uruguayan international struggled to get regular playing time. It is now his decision to transfer to the Greek first division.

Following his departure, Pellistri posted a farewell message to his supporters on Instagram. In response to the message, Bruno Fernandes said, “You deserve the best,” very soon.

After spending two seasons on loan at Alaves, the 22-year-old made his United debut in January 2023 against Charlton Athletic. Off the bench, he gave Marcus Rashford a late assist.

He was yet regarded as a squad player by most. Although the right winger made 25 appearances, he was mostly used as a substitute.

Pellistri will now play for Panathinaikos to further his budding career. Guaranteed playing time gives him the chance to leave a lasting impression.

In the long run, United could gain from his improvement. Fabrizio Romano reports that the club has agreed to a sizeable sell-on clause, estimated to be over 45%.

Panathinaikos has agreed to sign him through the summer of 2027.

Before the transfer deadline, United hopes to acquire a highly regarded defensive midfield player. For Manuel Ugarte, discussions with Paris Saint-Germain are progressing.

The Uruguayan will probably sign a loan with a £51 million buyout obligation the following summer.
