Ex-Sixth Man of the Year becomes possible replacement for injured KYRIE IRVING

With Kyrie Irving out until at least January with a torn ACL in his left knee, the Dallas Mavericks will be focused on strengthening their backcourt this offseason.

There is depth at point guard for the Mavericks, but there also a plethora of talent in the frontcourt.

With Spencer Dinwiddie’s impending unrestricted free agency, Brandon Williams and Jaden Hardy are currently Dallas’ sole in-house options.

Several players, like as Jrue Holiday and Collin Sexton, have been associated with the Mavericks in trade rumours.

A possible target in the upcoming free agency is Chris Paul as well.

If the team is unable in attracting those higher-profile players, it may seek out a different path.

Just one possible signatory? Malcolm Brogdon was named SI.com’s Sixth Man of the Year for the 2022–23 season by Austin Veazey.

The 32-year-old has missed a lot of time due to injuries; in the last two seasons, he has played in a total of 63 games.

As a potential short-term replacement for Irving when he is out with an injury, Brogdon would save the Mavericks money.

When Brogdon first entered the league in 2017, he was named Milwaukee’s Rookie of the Year.

In 2020–21, after a stint with the Bucks, the native of Virginia hooked on with the Pacers and went on to post a career-best 21.2 ppg in 56 games played throughout the regular season.

But he has been on the move recently, appearing for four different clubs during the previous four years.

The team’s formidable lineup is expected to include Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, and Cooper Flagg, who is projected to be selected first overall, among others.

Brogdon, a versatile guard and competent passer, would help create opportunities for these players.

On a per-game basis, Brogdon has shot 46.3/38.8/87.4 percent while averaging 15.4 points, 4.8 assists, 4.2 boards, and 1.6 three-pointers in 29.1 minutes of play during his nine-year career.
