Jordan Henderson left Liverpool for Al-Ettifaq in the summer, but he broke his contract in January and went to play for Ajax.

Jordan Henderson, who used to lead Liverpool, has said he knew he shouldn’t have moved to Saudi Arabia.

Henderson, 33, made a big move when he left Liverpool for £12 million to join Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League. He was one of many well-known European players who went to the Middle East for the off-season.

But some people didn’t like that he moved to a place where being gay is a crime. Henderson was a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights when he played for Liverpool.

After the move, it was hard for him to play for Steven Gerrard’s team. In January, it was said that Henderson wasn’t happy at the club because the hot weather and the stress it was putting on his family.

He was also upset that he wouldn’t be able to play for England in the European Championships this summer. He left Al-Ettifaq and joined Ajax during the winter window. That’s how long his deal with the Dutch team is: two and a half years.

Henderson talked about his time in the Middle East with the Dutch newspaper Parool. He used to make £350,000 a week at Al-Ettifaq. He said that going to play there was the wrong thing for him to do.

He said, “That football runs through my blood.”

“The Saudi League is growing, but I didn’t belong there; I made a mistake going there.” I’m pleased to be working on the Ajax project.

Henderson played the first seven games for Ajax as captain. They only won one, though, against Utrecht at the beginning of September. Henderson was asked if he regretted moving to Saudi Arabia. He said, “Looking back at the time, it was a big decision and one I felt was right for me.”

“In football, things change quickly. I’m happy with my choice to come to Ajax; I thought this was too good of a chance to pass up.” You can call them regrets or mistakes, but they’re only mistakes if you don’t learn from them. I learned a lot about Saudi from my mistakes.

“I’m not angry at anyone.” I’ll always talk to my friends over there, and there were still good things that came from it.

“In the end, it didn’t turn out the way we both wanted it to, but it ended on great terms.” Henderson was worried that he wouldn’t be able to go to the Euros this summer, but on Thursday, Gareth Southgate added him to the 25-person group for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
