Everton manager Sean Dyche talks about what Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still “getting to grips” with.
The manager of Everton, Sean Dyche, said that star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still “getting to grips” with the defense side of being a striker.
Recently, Everton has been playing better. They are now 15th in the Premier League and have won five straight games.
Liverpool World noted on October 27 that Dyche said that as a modern center forward, working hard on defense is “forever important.” This is something that Calvert-Lewin still needs to work on.
“We’ve talked to him [Beto] a lot about defense, and he and Dom are still getting it,” he said.
It’s always important for modern center forwards to work and protect from the front. Center-forwards can’t just stand there and score; they also have to defend smartly, which means not making tackles but getting in the way of passes, usually to a midfielder deep in the field.
Dom Calvert-Lewin needs to get in better shape for Everton.
Spurs have had a lot of trouble with Calvert-Lewin and Beto in the final third for a long time now because of how they’ve played.
Although the starting eleven looks worse without the English player, the scorer still seems like he could do more for the team.
Beto did help Everton get a point in their Premier League game against Fulham on October 26. He scored an equalizer in the 94th minute, which kept the Merseyside team’s perfect streak going.
But that was the striker’s only goal in the Premier League this season, which isn’t great for someone who’s meant to lead an attack.
Even though the Toffees have been playing well lately and are moving up the table, it still feels like they aren’t living up to their full promise.
Recent efforts by Dwight McNeil have helped them get through this tough patch, but they can’t depend on him every week. That means players like Calvert-Lewin will have to step up and make a difference, or things could quickly go bad at the club.
