Erling Haaland injury scare before Man City vs Liverpool as striker ‘vulnerable’
Manchester City has received a concerning update regarding Erling Haaland’s potential injury.
A significant injury scare has been instilled in Manchester City prior to next week’s match against Liverpool when Erling Haaland sustains a knock while on international duty with Norway. Haaland may have an arduous time recovering from the striker’s return to phenomenal form; however, he will be an indispensable member of Pep Guardiola’s squad when they host their fellow title contenders at the Etihad Stadium in nine days.
After beginning on the bench in Thursday’s friendly against the Faroe Islands, the striker was substituted for the second half.
However, Haaland appears to have suffered a recurrence of the ankle injury that sidelined him in the second half of City’s 6-1 rout of Bournemouth at the start of November, giving rise to a new concern.
After stretching for the ball in response to a teammate’s cross, the striker appeared to land with his foot firmly planted in the grass. The 23-year-old decided to remain on the field for the remainder of the contest after undergoing treatment for his ankle.
City supporters will be alarmed to learn that Haaland will be evaluated by the medical staff of Norway, as confirmed by manager Stale Solbakken.
“From what I can tell, everything is proceeding well. But I have yet to speak with him,” Solbakken told TV2, a Norwegian news outlet. “He at least re-engaged in the game.” Then it cannot be that terrible!”
On Sunday, it is uncertain whether Haaland will encounter Scotland. However, following their initial evaluation of the forward, the team’s physician, Ola Sand, provided a much more concerning update, implying that the striker’s ankle is in a “vulnerable” state due to a setback in addressing an underlying issue.
“The situation was remarkably similar to what transpired against Bournemouth fifteen days ago.” “He, too, has previously experienced it,” Sand told the same outlet. “A minor deformation occurs in his ankle, rendering him marginally susceptible. It hurts intensely at first, but then subsides relatively rapidly.
“He will now undergo some treatment, after which there will be some tranquility and rest, and we will check on him the following morning.” City has already been contacted. “Erling has already communicated with [chief medical officer] Mario Pafundi and City.”
As of yet, there is no indication of the severity of Haaland’s injury; however, Guardiola will be eager to ascertain the nature of the problem in advance of their crucial match against Liverpool in less than a week.
Haaland has recorded thirteen goals in twelve contests this season, including two in the 4-4 stalemate against Chelsea. His groin injury prevented him from attending last season’s 4-1 victory over the Reds, and he will undoubtedly be eager to make a speedy recovery.
