English football pundit Jamie Carragher reveals to Man United coach Erik Ten Hag how to avoid been sacked after FA Cup quarter-final vs Liverpool

Jamie Carragher thinks that Manchester United’s FA Cup quarterfinal match against Liverpool could be very important for boss Erik Ten Hag.

Jamie Carragher thinks that Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United will depend a lot on how they do in their exciting FA Cup match against Liverpool this Sunday.

United plays Liverpool at Old Trafford in the quarterfinals of the game. Ten Hag wants to get even after losing the final to Manchester City last year and do even better this time.

United and Liverpool will play each other twice in three weeks at Old Trafford. The first time is on Sunday, April 7, when Jurgen Klopp’s high-flying team makes the short trip to Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Carragher, an ex-Liverpool defender, thinks that how United does in both games, but especially on Sunday, will have a big effect on Ten Hag’s future at United. Ten Hag has had disappointing seasons in the Premier League, the Champions League, and the League Cup, so his future at United is unknown.

In his Friday Telegraph piece, Carragher said, “By Sunday night, it will be clearer if Sir Jim Ratcliffe is setting off or pausing the search for someone other than Ten Hag to lead another rebuilding process.”

Given his position, many people will say that the FA Cup quarterfinal draw is the worst thing that could happen to Ten Hag. It might turn around. When he plays Liverpool, he shouldn’t see danger; he should see a great chance.

“A good outcome can help change how people see him. If he wins the FA Cup, the whole season will look very different, especially considering how good the teams that are still in the game are.

United is eight points behind the teams that can qualify for the Champions League and is on track to have the joint-most losses in a Premier League season (12). They have already lost 11 games. The Reds’ new partial owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, said last month that he wanted to beat Liverpool and Manchester City to the top spot in English football.

“Upon taking control of United, Ratcliffe said he wanted to topple Manchester City,” said Carragher. “There’s no doubt that Liverpool and United will always compare themselves to each other.” Games against teams that have a history of rivalry are always more important.

“Even if United beats most teams, they will still get bad reviews if they don’t play well, like they did last weekend against Everton.” When United plays Liverpool, it’s always about the win.

Because these are England’s two most famous clubs, there is more emotion around these games than any other in the schedule. Only the city derbies come close. It hurts more when you lose than when you win.

“Managerial changes have often followed the realisation one club has fallen too far behind their north-west neighbour, and particularly poor showings in this fixture for coaches who are already under pressure have a habit of setting the stopwatch for the end of a reign.”
