Here are all the things you might have missed when Manchester United lost 3-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

It was almost impossible for Manchester United to finish in the top four after losing 3-1 to foes Manchester City in the derby on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.

Marcus Rashford scored an early goal that was in the running for Goal of the Season, but Phil Foden scored a goal that was also in the running for that award just 10 minutes into the second half, giving United a goal back. He scored a beautiful goal with his left foot from outside the box.

After that, City put on more pressure, so it looked like a second goal was going to happen soon. With just 80 minutes left, it did, and Foden led the cheers once more.

In extra time, City scored a third goal, which was guaranteed thanks to Erling Haaland. He missed a simple chance right before halftime, but he made up for it with a cool finish.

Nothing more than what City earned since they had controlled the game and had 73.7 percent of the ball. As for goals, they had 27 while United only had three.

Even though United played tough and determined in the first half, their most recent trip to the Etihad Stadium showed how far apart the two teams really are. That being said, here are some things you might not have seen in the 192nd Manchester derby.

Fernandes is shocked by Haaland’s miss

How did Haaland miss the chance to tie the game for City right before halftime? He is the only one who can answer that question.

When Foden crossed the ball into the six-yard box, Haaland had the chance to score another goal to add to his five against Luton Town. This time, the Norwegian player—who scored a hat-trick when City and United played at the Etihad Stadium last season—hit the ball over the goalkeeper. Everyone in the Etihad asked, “How?”

So many people thought the goal would go in that United captain Bruno Fernandes raised his arms, as if to show how angry and upset he was about giving up so close to halftime. But as soon as the ball went over the goal, he put them back down.

The way he moved made it look like he was about to slam his hands together in anger. He was able to breathe a big sigh of relief, though, as did everyone else in red.

It makes Ten Hag angry.
Just before the hour mark, Foden and his City teammates were celebrating getting back to a tie. Ten Hag, on the other hand, lost his temper on the sidelines. It made the United boss very angry that the referee let the game go on after what he saw as Kyle Walker fouling Rashford.

The United player who scored the goal fell easily, but his manager thought the referee should have stopped the game and gave his team a free kick. As he argued, City went up the other end and tied the game with a stunning long-range strike from Foden.

There was no doubt that the Dutchman was very angry. He threw a water bottle and then pointed his finger at the fourth judge. He was finally arrested for the fourth time this season.

The United players thank the fans

As the match at the Etihad got closer, Casemiro talked about how important the fans can be in such a big game. After the game was over, Steve McClaren made sure that United’s players kept their word by telling them to go over and cheer for the fans still in the away end.

Many people had already left for home by the time the full-time whistle blew, just like they did last season and the season before that. But some stayed to cheer. There was no one in the United team who ran for the tunnel to get out of there quickly. Instead, McClaren told them to go to the away end, which had big blue patches at that time.
