Dominic Calvert-Lewin turns down an offer to extend his contract with Everton ahead of an official transfer exit update.

The Mirror says that Everton tried to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin to a new deal, but he “refused” them.

David Anderson wrote on the paper’s website on October 26 that the striker wants to keep his options open since the last year of his present contract is coming to an end.

But on the same day, Sean Dyche gave an update on the situation and said there are no plans to let the 27-year-old leave in January so that they don’t lose him for nothing in the summer.

When asked about giving players away for money, the manager said, “Thank goodness we’ve never been pushed that far, and it still isn’t.”

“We can still make choices about what to do, and I don’t see him leaving until at least the end of his contract, and hopefully longer.”

This is why Calvert-Lewin hasn’t committed to staying with the club, even though Dan Friedkin’s takeover is moving forward: “Maybe it’s his agent saying wait and see,” Dyche explained. The answer is “I don’t know,” which is reasonable.

The January Everton sale is off, according to Sean Dyche.

The manager’s calmness about the situation could mean that the former England player is just waiting for proof of the takeover before committing, instead of necessarily looking for better offers.

There is still a chance that he could get a better offer somewhere else before he signs Friedkin’s contract, even though he plans to stay once that is done.

There is a deal on the table from the Toffees that is said to be “lucrative” [TEAMtalk, 24 October], and it seemed like the news of the takeover agreement was enough to get him back to the table [TEAMtalk, 13 October], after turning down opportunities in September [i News, 4 October].

In theory, only foreign teams should be able to look at him in January, but it hasn’t worked out yet. Juventus is interested because he is still under contract [Corriere dello Sport, 13 October], and Besiktas has joined the running [Fotomac, 24 October].

However, Everton will likely change their minds about letting Beto go in the winter transfer window after the Guinea Bissau international scored a goal in the 94th minute against Fulham on October 26 [Graeme Bailey, 16 October].

In the past few months, Calvert-Lewin has been coveted by Chelsea, Newcastle [GiveMeSport, 15 October], Manchester United, and West Ham [Liverpool Echo, 14 August]. If he does become free at the end of the season, he will have no shortage of team choices.

Armando Broja, who was on loan from Chelsea until the trade deadline, may need to make an impression quickly when he finally plays if that’s what’s planned.
