Director commends a £30 million player for declining a transfer to Manchester United.

Youssouf Fofana, who “believes in the project” at AS Monaco, was the one who opted against joining Premier League giants Manchester United in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano announced on X during a hectic deadline day at Old Trafford that the Red Devils had made an offer to acquire the France international on loan from Monaco. Romano further states that the Monegasques were unfazed by the offer, as they were loath and never would have allowed a £30 million asset to pass without payment guarantees.

However, in a few months, the sporting director of Monaco will be eager to elaborate on the circumstance.

According to Thiago Scuro, the player, not the club, merits “the majority of the credit.” He disputes rumors that Youssouf Fofana made the decisive move to reject Manchester United’s advances.

“The majority of the credit goes to him,” Scuro informs Nice Matin. “Because (Fofana) is committed to our endeavor, he has chosen to extend his stay at Monaco in order to further his progress.”

“His goals for the French national team and AS Monaco are enormous.”

Ultimately, Manchester United reached an agreement to acquire Sofyan Amrabat on a provisional, short-term contract. However, it is indisputable which of the two midfielders has had a more successful start to the new season: Fofana continues to impress across the Channel, whereas Amrabat has yet to regain his brilliant form from Qatar 2022.

Renowned for his ability to transport the ball, the Paris-born enforcer scored with long-range strikes in both of France’s November international break matches, with one of his rocket-like strikes against Greece nearly propelling the net into orbit.

It is uncertain whether Manchester United will reaffirm their interest. However, considering the uncertain futures of Casemiro, Amrabat, Christain Eriksen, and Scott McTominay, Ten Hag’s reacquaintance with Fofana is not entirely unexpected.

In particular, should United appoint Paul Mitchell, the former director of football for Scuro’s Monaco, as their new manager subsequent to the verification of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25 percent stake.
