A Manchester United coach apparently “had to be held back” by a coworker as he went on an X-rated rant at the referees during the team’s comeback win over Brentford last month.

Because Matthijs de Ligt was taken off the pitch to stop bleeding from a head injury, referee Sam Barrott sent United down to 10 players, and Ethan Pinnock scored against them. Fletcher was very angry about this.

Erik ten Hag, who was manager at the time, and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was his assistant, were both arrested for protesting.

People think that Fletcher went even further and argued with match officials in the hallway. A few days ago, it came out that the former United player had been banned from the sidelines for three games because of what happened.

He was also given a £7,500 fine.

New information shows that Fletcher went on a very angry rant at the match officials, and another United staff member had to hold him back.

According to The Daily Mail, the Independent Regulatory Commission has written down the reasons why Fletcher was banned. Barrott and three other assistant judges gave details about how the former Scotland international behaved.

Fourth official Gavin Ward told the Commission, “As I was making my way up the tunnel after halftime, Darren Fletcher of Manchester United aggressively approached me, pointing and yelling, ‘You are all f***ing shit, that is a f***ing joke, every f***ing week.'”

“I told him to calm down and made it clear that this behaviour was not acceptable at all.”

Then, as he tried to get closer to me, another staff member had to hold him back. This made me turn around and keep going to the change room for match officials.

“Once it was time to change, I told the other match officials about Mr. Fletcher’s behaviour when they arrived.”

It is known that the Commission looked at video evidence from the tunnel and came to the conclusion that Fletcher got “angry and started to remonstrate with the Fourth Official, making threats with his hands, yelling, and trying to get closer to the Fourth Official in a confrontational manner.” Then, a Manchester United teammate holds him back and pushes him away.

Fletcher said he was sorry for his angry response and said it was because of the controversial way Pinnock’s goal was achieved.

The 40-year-old man said he would have done something different if he had more time to calm down.

Even though Fletcher had a perfect record of never getting in trouble as a player or coach, the Commission decided that the three-game touchline ban was “a fair and reasonable sanction given the confrontational behaviour displayed on the video evidence and the fact that Mr. Fletcher had the opportunity to leave the remonstration with the Fourth Official, but he chose to carry on.”

Finally, Fletcher played in the first of his three games off last weekend, when the club beat Leicester City 3-0.

He won’t be in the bench with new manager Ruben Amorim for the games against Ipswich Town on November 24 and Everton on December 1.
