Watching the results of the 2024 US election has been compared by Dan Meis to Everton protecting a lead in extra time.

Voters recently chose between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris to be the 47th President of the United States [The Guardian, 5 November].

When asked about his worries about the results, Meis, the American creator of the new Everton Stadium, said they reminded him of watching the Toffees.

On X, he wrote, “Watching the returns feels like seeing Everton ahead 1-0 in regulation.”

Everton isn’t making progress under Sean Dyche

Regular relegation fights have become normal at Goodison Park, and the Blues could become a yo-yo club if nothing changes.

Dyche did a good job when he took over to keep the English team from going down in the 2022–23 season, but he hasn’t done much better since then.

The former Burnley boss doesn’t have a very talented or high-quality team to work with, but the team is still good enough to keep them from going down to the Championship.

The Toffees are once again in or near the relegation zone this season, and their 1-0 loss to Southampton on November 2 didn’t help.

The Blues got off to a bad start to the season, but they picked up speed and went five games without losing in the Premier League before the loss at St. Mary’s.

As the season went on, the Toffees might have been in a better spot if they hadn’t lost two-goal leads to Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

Fans will have another tough game to watch on November 9 when they go up against West Ham, a team that has also been below par. They hope to get all three points.
