Coward Joins the Folds As Grizzlies Lock Down Cedric in Multi Year Deal

After negotiating a trade with the Trail Blazers, the Grizzlies’ front office acquired the rookie’s draft rights.

A multi-year contract has been agreed upon between the Memphis Grizzlies and No. 11 overall pick Cedric Coward, the team announced late Monday night.

Team policy prevented the disclosure of the deal’s specifics. After negotiating a trade with the Trail Blazers, the Grizzlies’ front office acquired the rookie’s draft rights.

While a student at the university, Coward shot 38.2% from beyond the arc and averaged 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest.

The Grizzlies anticipate a quick impact from Coward, who is an above-average defender and can score from any spot on the field.

Coward began his collegiate career in Division III at Willamette University before moving up to Division I at Eastern Washington University (EWU).

After his sophomore year at EWU, he transferred to Washington State University (WSU) and was named to the All-Big Sky Conference First Team.

Coward went through the NCAA transfer portal and the NBA draft after his final year at WSU.
