Liverpool
Contrary to Manchester City’s injury report, Liverpool has five players poised to return for the Etihad clash.
Champion organizations Next Saturday at noon, Manchester City will host title rivals Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, with manager Pep Guardiola facing a growing number of injury concerns.
Five crucial Liverpool players are expected to make their return to an injury-ravaged Manchester City on the following Saturday.
The Reds will begin the season a mere one point behind the defending champions, as the title contest starts to take shape. Additionally, Jurgen Klopp’s squad has gone five Premier League games without a loss since suffering a controversial loss at Tottenham on September 30.
Furthermore, the current status of availability for both teams prior to the matchup could not be more divergent. Klopp was already anticipating the return of midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who missed the victory over Brentford due to suspension.
Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez were also absent from that 3-0 victory at Anfield. The latter also opted to exclude himself from the French squad during the international break. However, This is Anfield reports that both players are expected to be deemed fit for the voyage to the reigning champions.
Following knee surgery, Ryan Gravenberch is also expected to make his return, and Curtis Jones is once again a candidate for selection after suffering hamstring issues. However, while Klopp may presently be grappling with the appropriate type of personnel issues, Guardiola will be disappointed with the absence of crucial players.
Gareth Southgate omitted John Stones from the squad for Friday’s victory over Malta and Monday’s travel to North Macedonia due to his persistent muscle injury. Guardiola had previously indicated that the defender would be evaluated during the international break. This week, Dutch center-back Nathan Ake became the latest player to miss the Euro 2024 qualifying matches.
Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes have yet to make their respective Croatia and Portugal squads debuts, and Kevin de Bruyne remains inactive due to a hamstring operation. City have now potentially suffered an additional devastating setback in the wake of Norway’s 2-0 victory over the Faroe Islands on Thursday.
Erling Haaland, who sustained an injury during the match, has been ruled out of Sunday’s travel to Scotland. Since then, team physician Ola Sand has disclosed that additional tests are required to determine the extent of the harm.
Haaland led Mo Salah with 13 league strikes, while the latter recorded 10. The Norwegian has appeared in each of City’s twelve Premier League contests during the 2023/24 season.
