Due to injuries, Manchester City endured a tumultuous international break, but Pep Guardiola welcomed two doubters into training prior to their return to the Premier League.

Erling Haaland and Nathan Ake of Manchester City both participated in pre-saturday training with the group prior to their home Premier League match against Liverpool.

Both players have been ruled out for the luncheon match due to their withdrawals from international duty with their respective countries. Ake missed the pre-half of the 4-4 stalemate at Chelsea with an unspecified injury.

Haaland was on loan with Norway at the beginning of the month, but a recurrence of the ankle injury that sidelined him against Bournemouth prevented him from playing. Despite finishing the 2-0 victory against the Faroe Islands, he was not involved in Sunday’s match against Scotland.

Prior to their journey to Hampden Park, Norway manager Stale Solbakken did speculate that the striker might have been able to feature had the match been a championship. Despite this, City was concerned about his absence as they prepare to host Liverpool for the opening match of the weekend.

Thursday evening, however, City’s official website published a gallery of training photographs in which Ake and Haaland were both visible among the group. The duo appear to be completely engrossed in the session, which provides a tremendous boost for the weekend.

Rodri was also photographed in the session, having been substituted from Spain’s opening match against Cyprus on account of “discomfort,” as reported. On Sunday, however, the midfielder appeared in 86 minutes against Georgia.

City’s other several fitness concerns, including Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, John Stones, and Ederson, are not depicted in photographs. Pep Guardiola is expected to deliver a pre-game press conference on Friday, during which he will presumably discuss the status of his players who have returned from international duty.
