Chelsea v Manchester City player ratings: Palmer 9, Sterling 8; Haaland 8, Gvardiol 5
On Sunday, Manchester City extended its lead a single point atop the Premier League standings with a thrilling 4-4 draw at Chelsea.
Former City player Cole Palmer equalized the match in extra time after Erling Haaland scored twice.
In the 24th minute, City took the lead when Haaland coolly converted a penalty assessed by VAR after Spanish defender Marc Cucurella dissidently retrieved Haaland’s shirt.
Equalizing five minutes later, Thiago Silva, a 39-year-old Brazilian defender for Chelsea, headed the ball into the net.
After Reece James crossed the ball in the 37th minute and Josko Gvardiol erred in defense, former City forward Raheem Sterling converted.
But Chelsea’s advantage lasted less than ten minutes before City’s equalizer was headed in injury time of the first half by defender Manuel Akanji.
Haaland scored his second goal one minute after the resumption, but Nicolas Jackson equalized for the home side in the 67th minute of a breathless second half.
The championship appeared to be won by the champions after Rodri’s 86th-minute goal, but they conceded a 94th-minute penalty that Palmer converted.
