Chelsea reach a huge transfer verdict following their unsuccessful attempts to sign Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney.
For the first time this season, Nicolas Jackson has started all three league games and has scored twice. He also completed the full 90 minutes in Sunday’s draw with Crystal Palace.
Nicolas Jackson has been awarded a substantial new contract by Chelsea, who have placed their trust in the striker following the failure to secure Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen.
Toney, an England international, relocated from Brentford to Al Ahli on the deadline day after Chelsea’s pursuit of him failed to result in a mutual deal with the Bees. Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, was also on the Blues’ radar; however, he is currently residing in Italy.
Jackson has maintained his position as the line leader this term, following a hit-and-miss debut season. The Senegal international has started all three league games this season, and in Sunday’s draw with Crystal Palace, he completed the full 90 minutes for the first time this season. Additionally, he has scored twice.
The frontman will be 32 years old by the time his new contract expires in 2033. After the Palace encounter, manager Enzo Maresca expressed his satisfaction with Jackson, and his teammate Cole Palmer has also extended his contract until 2033.
The Italian informed reporters, “I am exceedingly pleased.” “Nicolas is performing exceptionally well for us, both on and off the pitch.” He has already tallied two goals this season. Today, he scored once more. We are satisfied with him, despite the fact that he had two additional opportunities.
“I have faith in the club, and it has always had faith in me.” Not because we are in search of an additional striker; not because we have lost confidence in Nicolas. He further stated, “We have confidence in Nicolas.” Last week, when the transfer window was still open, I stated that he is performing exceptionally well for us. I am exceedingly pleased with him.”
Jackson, a former Villarreal player, scored the opening goal for Chelsea against Palace by converting a Palmer assist from close range. However, Ebere Eze scored an equaliser, and Maresca’s team was limited to a point after Jackson was unable to capitalise on a late opportunity with only Dean Henderson to contend with.
“It was an excellent opportunity to secure the victory,” Jackson stated regarding his stoppage-time opportunity. “It was the last minute, I was a little bit tired, but I made the run and hopefully next time I will score one like this.”
“We’re a little bit disappointed to drop points because we should have won the game,” he indicated. “They were defending so poorly, and we had numerous opportunities.”
“We are not satisfied with the outcome; however, it is preferable to defeat.” We must simply strive to secure the next opportunity, disregard the past, and focus on the forthcoming contests.
On September 14, Chelsea will play their inaugural match following the international break at Bournemouth. Chelsea will then embark on a road trip to West Ham for a Premier League match, following an EFL Cup third round match against Barrow.
