Chelsea owner Todd Boehly anxious for immediate ‘resolution’ to power conflict with Clearlake as billionaire views complete takeover

Stakeholders Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have “lost faith” in their partnership, which is causing tensions to arise in the background at Chelsea.

In 2022, the club was acquired by Clearlake Capital and Boehly for a total of £4.25 billion. Nevertheless, the stakeholders’ tensions have been intensifying in response to the men’s team’s subpar performances on the pitch. Clearlake Capital, which is owned by Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano, is reportedly interested in purchasing Boehly’s stake in the club. The 50-year-old is also eager to become a majority shareholder.

The Guardian has recently reported that Boehly is anxious to reach a solution as soon as possible, as tensions continue to simmer in the boardroom. The American would be prohibited from selling to a third party without Clearlake’s consent under the provisions of the takeover agreement. However, Boehly is refusing to be compelled to leave the club, despite his acknowledgement that the management structure is untenable.

Clearlake Capital is purportedly in a comparable position to Boehly. The American private equity firm maintains a 61.5% stake and regards the investment as a long-term one. Consequently, it will not be prepared to sell shares.

It will be challenging to identify a resolution to this boardroom dispute. The men’s team is striving to improve upon their recent disappointing seasons, while the women are attempting to defend their WSL title. Chelsea fans will be hopeful that the unrest does not impact their performances on the pitch.
