Brighton show a dying minute interest in a transfer move for £50m Chelsea star man

In the concluding days of this transfer window, Brighton has reportedly expressed interest in Chelsea’s £50 million player.

The Blues squad is now in the final two days of the summer window, and there is much speculation regarding the futures of several members.

Chelsea and Brighton are Premier League adversaries who are intimately acquainted with one another. In reality, the organisations have engaged in numerous transactions over the past few years.

Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, and Robert Sanchez have all recently made the move from the Amex Stadium to Stamford Bridge. Gabriel Agbonblahor, conversing with talkSPORT last month, acknowledged that Cucurella had disproven him as a player.

Brighton has expressed some “late interest” in signing Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell, according to journalist Simon Phillips via his Substack on Thursday.

He has clarified that the 27-year-old defender’s interest in joining the Seagulls is uncertain; however, they are a late suitor for him in this window. The left-back will not be eligible to participate in first-team football for the remainder of 2024 if he remains at Chelsea beyond the deadline on Friday.

Phillips further states that Brighton’s interest in Chilwell is not yet advanced. However, we should pause and observe whether any developments occur in the upcoming hours.

Chilwell has demonstrated his ability to be a top-tier full-back in the Premier League when he is fully fit and performing at his best. Regrettably, the £50 million man (Sky Sports) has experienced a decline in fitness and form over the past 18 months, and he has been placed in an isolated position by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

Brighton’s pursuit of the Blues’ star is somewhat puzzling, as they have recently acquired Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbahce for £25 million (The Athletic). The 24-year-old Turkey international is a left-back by profession; however, he possesses the ability to play further forward in midfield.

Chilwell should examine the most recent England squad, which was announced by interim manager Lee Carsley on Thursday, and determine whether there is a viable path for him to re-enter the international arena if he relocates.

The most recent England squad lacks a recognised left-back, which is a remarkable development. It was a problem throughout Euro 2024 in the summer as well with right-back Kieran Trippier often covering on the left.

Chilwell should be in a state of urgency to secure an exit from Chelsea within the next 48 hours, even if it involves a loan to another team.
