BREAKING: Spanish star set to sign new deal with La Liga giants Barcelona following talks with the club
Aitana Bonmati, a Spain international, is on the brink of signing a new contract with Barcelona that will extend her tenure beyond 2025.
Chelsea, the Women’s Super League champions, are among the most prominent European clubs that have expressed interest in the current Ballon d’Or holder.
The 26-year-old midfielder has appeared in more than 150 matches for the Catalan club since graduating from their academy.
The negotiations have been ongoing for several months, and both parties remain optimistic about the possibility of reaching a new agreement that would enable her to become the highest-paid female player in the world.
Bonmati was announced as a nominee for the Ballon d’Or award earlier this week. She is a strong contender to retain her title, having assisted Barcelona in winning their third Women’s Champions League title.
She scored in the final as Barcelona defeated Lyon 2-0 and was awarded the player of the tournament a few weeks later, following her team’s fifth consecutive league title.
