BREAKING: Real Madrid are set to ‘reconsider’ goalkeeper’s transfer verdict

According to a recent report, Real Madrid are considering the possibility of re-signing custodian Kepa Arrizabalaga in the event that Andriy Lunin departs.

Kepa was loaned to Los Blancos in August 2023, replacing Thibaut Courtois after he sustained an ACL injury during training. Despite starting the season as a starter, the Chelsea loanee lost his position to Andriy Lunin and finished the season with only 20 appearances in all competitions.

Kepa was relegated to third-choice when Courtois returned late in the campaign, and Madrid declined to pursue a permanent transfer for him. The goalkeeper was subsequently returned to Chelsea.

Nevertheless, MARCA suggests that Madrid may reconsider their stance on Kepa, who could be reinstated at the club if Lunin opts to pursue his talents elsewhere.

The Ukraine international has not requested to leave the club, despite the fact that his current contract has only 12 months remaining and an extension has not yet been signed.

Lunin has garnered significant interest from other clubs due to his impressive performance as a starter. If he decides to depart in pursuit of consistent playing time, Madrid may consider re-signing Kepa.

As Kepa approaches the conclusion of his contract this summer, Chelsea intends to irrevocably dispose of him. They anticipate incurring a substantial loss on the £71.6m record fee they paid to acquire him in 2018.

Negotiations may not be particularly difficult for any of the parties involved, as Kepa is also eager to return to Madrid. However, the 29-year-old’s future is currently linked to Lunin.
