BREAKING NEWS: Mavericks star Splashes $50,000 on Tamir Rice Center

An organisation established in honour of Tamir Rice received a substantial donation from Kyrie Irving.

Irving was seen on Wednesday (June 25) as a GoFundMe contributor to the youth centre in Rice’s hometown, which is being constructed just over a decade after Cleveland police shot and killed 12-year-old Rice at a playground.

With the NBA player’s $50,000 contribution, the fundraising is now at $86,595, one short of its $110,000 target.

Among 1,200 contributors, Irving has made the largest gift.

Samira Rice, Tamir Rice’s mother, spearheaded the fundraising effort on the foundation’s behalf.

The youth centre will serve as a venue for the “enrichment of our children” via the arts and education.

Adding, “I have already invested into this beautiful historical building with you all support,” Rice stated in the fundraiser description.

We will be eternally grateful for all the support you have already provided to Tamir’s legacy.

This will now be followed through by our new team. Finally, I’m nearly done.
No one who has faith in the vision or in my community can expect me to fail them. Believe me, you will witness the outcomes.
