Liverpool may have given rivals Manchester United a big help in their quest to play in the Champions League next season without meaning to.

United was kicked out of Europe early this season because they finished last in their Champions League group, which also had Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen, and Galatasaray.

After a tough season under Erik ten Hag, they now have to fight hard to make it to the top European club football tournament.

United is in sixth place in the league, 11 points behind the top four teams, with only 11 games left to play.

There is a chance, though, that the Premier League will get an extra spot in the Champions League next season.

As part of the changes that will be made to the competition for the 2024–25 season, two European leagues will get an extra spot in the Champions League based on how well their teams did in UEFA tournaments this season.

Based on the UEFA coefficient results for this season, those two extra spots are now going to Italy and Germany.

Serie A in Italy has 16,000 points so far this season, and Bundesliga in Germany is in second place with 15,214 points. The Premier League is in third place with 14.625.

As of Thursday night, only Liverpool beat Sparta Prague 5-1 in the Europa League, making them the only English team to win in Europe.

Rome beat Brighton 4-0 in the Europa League, and West Ham lost 1-0 in the same tournament. On the other hand, Aston Villa and Ajax tied 0-0 in the Conference League.
