BREAKING NEWS: Manchester City initiate move for £170k per week sensation; Pep Guardiola thinks highly of him
According to reports, Manchester City has made an initial approach for one of their long-term targets this summer.
The trophy procession that followed the Cityzens’ FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United was comparatively subdued as they traversed the streets of Manchester. Following a treble-winning campaign, they were able to commemorate this occasion with a mere Premier League triumph, an accomplishment they have become accustomed to in recent years as this marks their fourth consecutive championship triumph.
A report suggests, however, that all of this may soon change, as this season may mark the end of Pep Guardiola’s tenure as manager of the Etihad club. His current contract is set to expire in 2025, and it is widely believed that he will choose to resign at that juncture. The verdict for the 115 Premier League charges, which the club fears will have a monumental summer, could be rendered around that time.
“Multiple sources within the industry and City have openly discussed the prospect of an impending departure in recent months” as the club prepares for life without the Spaniard, according to The Daily Mail, despite City’s desire to retain Guardiola.
It means that the 2024/25 season could be his last, and there is still much speculation regarding the composition of his squad for that season. Kevin de Bruyne, Ederson, and Bernardo Silva are all linked with potential moves away from the club, while Kalvin Phillips and Sergio Gomez may seek additional playing time and depart.
Consequently, this summer is expected to be replete with newcomers, and Guardiola might have been granted the chance to bolster his squad with a player of whom he is an enormous admirer.
This is in the form of Dani Olmo, a midfield maestro who has been a long-term target for both Barcelona and Manchester City. After several transfer windows of speculation, Olmo could eventually depart RB Leipzig this summer.
Olmo has a £51 million release clause in his contract this summer, despite having three years remaining on his £170,000 per week agreement in Germany. Reportedly, he has been in discussion with Josko Gvardiol, a current Manchester City star who transferred from Leipzig to Manchester last summer.
Although Barcelona is also monitoring the midfielder, reports in Spain (via Sport Witness) indicate that Olmo would prefer to play in the Premier League. In this regard, the Cityzens have reportedly “commenced negotiations” to sign the Spaniard, as they have the financial leverage over Barcelona and can also fulfill Olmo’s desire to play in England.
Guardiola, a longtime admirer, acknowledged that Olmo was a “top player” when his Dinamo Zagreb side confronted the Spaniard during his tenure.
He explained, “Of course, he has a bright future, given that he is a premier player.” “Today’s performance demonstrates this. It is irrelevant to the transfer and the compensation he is entitled to. In any case, he is an extraordinary player, and I am fairly certain he is capable of competing in Europe’s top divisions. Hopefully, it can occur if Dinamo and he both desire it.”
