BREAKING: Man Utd chiefs engage in discussions with player Erik Ten Hag ejected from dressing room
Manchester United released and retained lists were disclosed, with Shola Shoretire, who is currently in negotiations to extend his contract, among the players who remain uncertain.
Shola Shoretire continues to engage in negotiations with Manchester United regarding the potential for a new contract.
In 12 appearances for United’s under-21s last term, the 20-year-old forward scored nine goals and provided four assists. He made his first team debut at the age of 17 in 2020/21. Nevertheless, the striker, who is highly esteemed, has not entered the first team picture under Erik ten Hag.
Upon the Dutchman’s debut in 2022, the starlet was among the numerous players who were dismissed from United’s changing room due to an influx of new signings. Reports indicated that a group was relocated to the under-23 changing area due to the limited space available in the first team facilities.
Phil Jones, Brandon Williams, Axel Tuanzebe, Teden Mengi, and Shoretire were purportedly the players who were demoted. Currently, the club is only in discussions with Shoretire regarding his future with the organization.
Despite his 53 senior appearances for the club, Williams was not extended a contract. The 23-year-old was a member of Ipswich Town’s promotion-winning squad during the previous season; however, he did not appear in any games after the turn of the year.
Shoretire was loaned to Bolton Wanderers in January 2023 following his return to the junior dressing room. Despite making 16 appearances, the youthful striker was only able to score one goal during his initial stint away from Old Trafford.
Nevertheless, that did not deter him from courting interest last summer. On the day of the transfer deadline, there were opportunities in the Championship and abroad; however, the appropriate move did not occur.
The club is presently in discussions with several players, including Shoretire. Jonny Evans, Tom Heaton, and Omari Forson are currently in discussions regarding new contracts. Charlie McNeill has received an offer; however, the club has verified that he is “pursuing new opportunities elsewhere.”
It is uncertain whether the Ten Hag’s future will affect the ability to reach an agreement. The destiny of the former Ajax manager remains uncertain in the wake of United’s FA Cup final victory over their rivals, Manchester City.
A comprehensive club review is currently ongoing at United, during which Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club’s new hierarchy will determine the future of Ten Hag. Ten Hag, who joined the club in 2022, has one year remaining on his contract. Potential replacements for him have included Thomas Tuchel, Thomas Frank, and Mauricio Pochettino.
