BREAKING: Man United entangled in Man City’s legal case against Premier League

Reportedly, Manchester United is named in the landmark legal action that Manchester City has filed against the Premier League.

A report claims that Manchester United has been drawn into the legal proceedings that Manchester City is initiating against the Premier League on grounds of ‘discrimination’.

The Blues have reportedly drafted a 165-page legal document in an effort to overturn the league’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) regulations, which are deemed “illegal,” according to The New York Times. According to the report, the City is pursuing damages.

The two entities are already slated to engage in a momentous hearing later this year regarding the 115 rule violations the Premier League has accused City of. It has been suggested that premier league clubs are apprehensive that City’s victory in this case could bolster their position prior to that hearing. They refute each of the 115 accusations.

It has been reported that City have contended that the APT regulations, which were implemented in 2021 subsequent to the Newcastle United takeover, violate competition law and exhibit discriminatory treatment towards clubs with connections to the Gulf region and clubs situated beyond the confines of London. The club reportedly seeks damages for money they have been unable to earn since the implementation of the ‘illegal’ regulations, in addition to an end to the regulations.

The commencement of the two-week hearing on Monday will significantly impact the Premier League and heighten the tension between City and the league prior to their charges hearing later this year. The primary accusations against which the Blues are defending pertain to the veracity of the information they allegedly furnished regarding sponsorship agreements.

It is anticipated that the hearing regarding their 115 alleged violations will occur in the autumn. There have been allegations that City, under the pretext of sponsorship revenue, fabricated sponsorship payments made by their owner Sheikh Mansour and concealed through third parties, are in fact inflated in nature.

The potential illegality of regulations governing transactions involving related parties could substantially fortify the City’s defense during the hearing scheduled for later this year. The municipality has refuted any culpability in regards to the 115 allegations.

Additionally, The Times report asserts that City holds the Premier League accountable for the lack of expenditure regulation during United’s dominance, contending that they have been unable to profit from their brand to the same extent as United.

The regulations pertaining to APT were strengthened in February of this year. Twelve organizations reportedly supported it, while six opposed and two abstained. The United sway of vote is unknown.

“After a comprehensive review of the existing rules governing associated party transactions and fair market value assessment, clubs have reached a consensus on a set of amendments aimed at improving the system’s efficiency and precision,” the league said in a press release.
