BREAKING: Man City compelled to let go of striker to Premier League side to help tackle their FFP issues
Manchester City, the Premier League champions, are purportedly being compelled to sell one of their most talented players in order to address Financial FairPlay concerns, according to a report.
It is the most recent transfer story to emerge this summer, joining a lengthy list of potential outgoings. However, some are more probable than others in an ever-changing landscape for Manchester City’s first-team squad.
The most recent discussions have been about striker Julian Alvarez, who is reportedly seeking an increase in his game time as a prominent striker for a European club. This has sparked interest from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Atletico Madrid.
Nevertheless, Manchester City is only interested in selling Alvarez this summer if he is able to secure a viable destination. The club would likely require a transfer fee that exceeds £70 million for the FIFA World Cup winner.
However, Alvarez is not the sole striker who has been associated with a departure from the Etihad Stadium this summer. According to a recent report, Manchester City will be actively seeking to transfer one of their prospects in the upcoming weeks and months.
Manchester City will sell highly-rated academy graduate striker Liam Delap to a Premier League club this summer in order to address their Financial FairPlay issues, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The 21-year-old centre-forward has returned to the club after a season-long loan at Hull City. However, he is now eligible to depart the Etihad Stadium on a permanent basis. The Englishman’s status as a homegrown player is a factor in the calculations before Pep Guardiola’s team makes another expenditure.
Delap has since embarked on three consecutive loan spells throughout the English Football League since netting his first senior goal for Manchester City in a League Cup match against Bournemouth behind closed doors.
Delap began the 2022/23 season with a temporary stint at Stoke City, where he scored three goals in 23 appearances. He was subsequently recalled by Manchester City and promptly loaned back out to Preston North End.
Despite not achieving much success at Deepdale, Liam Rosenior’s Hull City transitioned to Delap the following season. He remained at the club for the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign, earning the in-house Player of the Month award for December.
