With Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool contract about to expire, Arne Slot will have to make a significant choice as several bidders are vying for the Premier League star.

Mohamed Salah has hinted at a potential departure from Liverpool, surprising former Manchester United striker Louis Saha.

Salah joined the Reds from Roma in 2017 and is currently in his ninth season with the team. In 350 Premier League games, he has tallied 212 goals and dishevelled 90 assists, guiding Liverpool to titles in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Community Shield.

The Egyptian international committed his career to Liverpool until 2025 when he signed a new three-year contract in 2022, making him the most paid player in Liverpool history at £350,000 per week. But, there has been no more progress on Salah’s contract extension, despite Saudi teams’ interest in him throughout the previous 12 months.

With his current Liverpool contract expiring in the summer of 2020, the 32-year-old will have January to negotiate a pre-contract with another team.

The former Premier League player Saha expresses amazement that Salah is still with the Reds and says he will leave if he so chooses, as well as his thoughts on the team. The 46-year-old added, “I’m a little surprised that Mo Salah is still at Liverpool – I don’t know what his wish is,” in an interview with Paddy Power.

“He’s performed incredibly well for the team, giving it his all each and every time. He’ll consistently score 20 goals a season and get you near to championship games and awards. These players will eventually want to try new things, and Salah’s attitude towards the team is well-known.

“It appears that Salah and the team or the manager don’t always see eye to eye, but he’s still playing and smiling.” We want to see players with his level of motivation and emotion in the Premier League.”

Saha continued by saying that while he hopes the Egyptian stays at Liverpool if that is his wish, supporters should make the most of him while it lasts. “I want him to stay there and maintain that competition with the top clubs,” he continued. Erling Haaland and Salah will be up there, but while he’s here, let’s make the most of it.

“I’m sure his options will be open, if he wants to leave, he’ll leave and if he wants to stay Liverpool will be happy to keep him.”
