BREAKING: Liverpool are at the verge of closing €35m deal in signing Newcastle transfer target as per Fabrizio Romano.
After his successful Euro 2024 campaign, Giorgi Mamardashvili, a former target of Newcastle, is reportedly “on the verge” of joining Liverpool from Valencia, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Earlier in the transfer season, Newcastle sought to add a new custodian to challenge Nick Pope, as the Georgian international was considered to be one of our flagship acquisitions in June.
Nevertheless, our objectives shifted and it appears we were compelled to reconsider transfers after losing out on Tosin Adarabioyo, a centre back who was available on a free transfer.
Romano, who is reporting for X this morning, says that Mamardashvili would cost approximately €35 million. However, he will go back to the Spanish team on loan for this season before coming to Liverpool in the summer of 2025, raising the possibility that he will be Alisson Becker’s long-term replacement.
Although it may turn out to be a lost chance for Newcastle, it’s reasonable to argue that we have more pressing issues to deal with, since the first team has to make improvements at centre defence and on the right side.
