BREAKING: League Cup groups have been disclosed, with key rivals slated to battle each other
Today’s Women’s League Cup draw has resulted in a distinct “group of death” for the 2024/25 season.
Nine Barclays Women’s Super League teams and eleven Women’s Championship sides have been divided into five groups today. Group A and Group E each contain three top-tier teams.
Group A, located in the northern section of the draw, includes Newcastle United, Everton, Liverpool, and Manchester United, all of whom were recently promoted to the second division. This arrangement results in two additional Merseyside derbies and Liverpool-United clashes for fans to appreciate. Newcastle’s remarkable run to the third-division title should not be disregarded either; this group has already been designated as the mandatory “group of death” for this year’s competition.
In the southern region, Group E will feature Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa, all of which are competing for advancement, as well as Charlton Athletic, who are a contender for the Championship title. This group is also expected to provide a plethora of exciting moments. West Ham United have been fortunate to be drawn with three teams from the lower tier, despite the fact that no group is straightforward.
The group stage is scheduled to commence on October 2nd and conclude on December 11th and 12th. However, there is a possibility of a surprise midway through the tournament, as Manchester City and the current Champions League champions Arsenal could potentially enter the competition if they are eliminated early from the Champions League. Chelsea will participate in the competition in late January, and the quarterfinals will be played before the semi-finals a fortnight later and the final on the weekend of March 15th.
The entire tournament, as well as the forthcoming WSL season, can be monitored on FromTheSpot.
