Over the final days of the summer transfer window, Ivan Toney may be a player to monitor, as he has been linked to Chelsea and Saudi clubs. Additionally, the England striker has previously experienced a failed transfer.

After previously witnessing a switch to Wolves collapse, Ivan Toney will be hopeful that a failed medical does not jeopardise yet another move.

Heading into the final days of the transfer window, the Brentford striker is courting interest. Chelsea has identified Enzo Maresca as a potential candidate to replace the striker position.

Brentford may be open to selling Toney, who has only one year remaining on his contract, as Saudi clubs have also expressed interest in the England star. Toney will be hoping for greater fortune than he experienced nearly a decade ago, irrespective of the destination.

Toney was making headlines with Northampton in League Two back in 2015. Wolves were on the brink of securing his services, and a number of clubs were intrigued in him.

Nevertheless, the Midlands team was compelled to terminate the match after a medical condition that had been previously unknown was identified. Last year, the striker explained the situation on The Diary of a CEO podcast, stating, “Actually, I was supposed to go to Wolves before I was going to Newcastle.” I arrived, greeted everyone in the changing room, obtained my number, and captured the images.

“They proceed to the contract side, and I believe there was a brief discussion between my agent and the club regarding specific matters that were relevant to us. This caused confusion for my family and me.” We were unaware of the situation until the club abruptly announced that they were no longer interested in signing you as a result of your scoliosis in the back.

Toney further stated, “We were bewildered by the situation. We had received the squad number, had met all of the players and staff, and then were informed that they were not interested in signing us due to our scoliosis. We were left wondering, is this truly the reason?” Is there an additional explanation?

“It fails to register.” I was 18 years old at the time and believed that I was in good health and relishing football. You believe that you are capable of maintaining this level of fitness, strength, and health, as you approach the age of 28.

Newcastle ultimately acquired Toney. He did not get much of a chance at St James’ Park and was sent out on a series of EFL loans.

Ultimately, the striker relocated permanently to Peterborough before joining Brentford in 2020. He has since scored 72 goals in 141 appearances for the Bees in all competitions.
