Chelsea
BREAKING: Chelsea owners are now exploring potential sales options following the dissolution of their partnership.
In May 2022, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital acquired Chelsea. However, a recent report has suggested that the club’s management may consider selling the organisation.
Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, the co-owners of Chelsea, are reportedly evaluating their options, just over two years after acquiring the club.
According to a recent report from Bloomberg, the two parties are reportedly contemplating the possibility of purchasing each other out after a deterioration in their relationship between Boehly and Clearlake co-founder Behdad Eghbali.
Relations have soured due to disagreements regarding the club’s recruitment policy and subpar performances on the pitch. The future of the Blues is uncertain, but it has been revealed that Clearlake Capital has no intention of selling and is only interested in increasing their stake.
When they initially acquired the club, Boehly, who is also the proprietor of the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the Guggenheim Baseball Management consortium, assumed the role of sporting director.
However, over the past two years, he has progressively receded into the background as the club has made a concerted effort to reform its recruitment staff.
Boehly has withdrawn from the day-to-day administration of the club in the past six months, and Eghbali is now widely regarded as the most influential figure at Stamford Bridge.
In a £4.25 billion transaction, the Boehly-Clearlake consortium acquired Chelsea from Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. Boehly, US businessman Mark Walter, and Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss possess the remaining shares of the club, while Clearlake owns over 60%.
Chelsea has spent more than £1 billion on new players since Boehly and Clearlake assumed leadership; however, their on-field accomplishments have been inadequate.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino was terminated by the Blues, despite the fact that they finished sixth in the Premier League following a successful season-ending performance.
Graham Potter succeeded Thomas Tuchel, who was terminated by Chelsea in September 2022, prior to the Argentine’s appointment. However, the former Brighton chief was dismissed after less than six months and succeeded by Frank Lampard, a club legend, until the conclusion of the season.
In April, Boehly encouraged dissatisfied supporters to remain loyal to the club in response to criticism regarding its recruitment strategy and subpar performance, as reported by Forbes. He stated, “We simply need to allow the process to unfold and allow them the opportunity to transition from exceptional individual players with exceptional skills to establishing a cohesive team.”
“The good news is that there is a significant level of public concern.” Additionally, the unfortunate reality is that individuals are exceedingly concerned. Sometimes, this results in feelings of frustration towards the team and the proprietors. I comprehend that; however, we must persist in our current course of action.
