BREAKING: Blackburn Rovers has signed Charlton Athletic former goalie on a free transfer
Poppy Soper, a former custodian for Charlton Athletic, has been acquired by Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer.
This evening, the Lancashire team disclosed the agreement through a post on their official club X account.
After departing Charlton Athletic at the conclusion of the previous season, the 22-year-old has joined Blackburn Rovers. Soper joined the South East Londoners in the summer of 2022 and remained with the club for two seasons. Last season, Soper was not in high demand at The Valley and was subsequently loaned to Ipswich Town, a third-tier team. The custodian appeared in 12 matches for The Tractor Girls across all competitions.
Plymouth Argyle was the organisation in which Soper spent her formative years. Emma Hayes, the former Chelsea manager, observed her while she was representing The Pilgrims. She was subsequently granted the opportunity to sign dual-registration terms with the Barclays Women’s Super League giants. Despite the fact that Soper did not appear for Chelsea, she was afforded the privilege of collaborating with some of the most accomplished goalkeepers in the world.
Soper has been seen in and around the Wales senior squad on the international stage. She is still anticipating her debut with The Red Dragons.
Soper is the eighth player to be signed by Blackburn Rovers during the summer transfer window. This season, she will face off against Alex Brooks for the team’s number one uniform.
