BREAKING: Barcelona considering releasing two star players next summer if there is no change in the contract situation
Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo’s futures continue to be a topic of discussion at Can Barca, as both are currently nursing long-term injuries and are not under a long-term contract. They will be out of contract next summer in both instances.
Since November 2023, Barcelona has extended an offer to de Jong, according to MD, to which he has not responded. In the interim, negotiations regarding a new contract for the Uruguayan were initiated in January of last year; however, there have been no significant developments in these negotiations since then.
In the event that their contracts are not renewed, Barcelona will attempt to sell them next summer in order to avoid losing them for free, as they were eager to do this year.
Barcelona’s interest in Joshua Kimmich and Jonathan Tah is derived from their contractual situations. These players are familiar to Hansi Flick and would fill similar responsibilities.
Barcelona will understandably be apprehensive about losing two of their most talented players for free, and as a result, this is a financially viable decision. Nevertheless, the Blaugrana were amenable to the possibility of the pair exiting this summer in order to generate funds through the transfer market. The mere fact that these contracts have reached their final year will be considered bad management.
