Manchester United
Before the January transfer window, Ruben Amorim is going to get the harsh FFP facts about Man United.
The dangerous Financial Fair Play (FFP) situation at Manchester United could be a harsh warning for Ruben Amorim as he works to improve the team.
After the weekend, Amorim will work with a full team. This week, he has been getting his feet under the table at Carrington. Because of problems with his visa, he hasn’t been able to work officially on the training pitch, but the Portuguese coach has held talks at the field and will already have his backroom staff ready for the new chapter.
When January comes around, Amorim will definitely be watching his team to see what areas he needs to improve in order to use a 3-4-3. The 39-year-old may have his eye on some new players that he wants to bring in, but they probably won’t be from Sporting because he has already broken his word.
But before he runs to Ineos to get the money, the club’s FFP situation might make it less likely that they can make big purchases in January. In September, United lost £113.2 million, which is very close to what the Premier League rules allow.
United is sure they will follow FFP rules because they know they can lose more than £105 million over the three years if they need to. For example, they can spend in infrastructure, academies, and women’s teams. But Sir Jim Ratcliffe is very aware of Old Trafford’s money problems and has been trying to cut costs ever since he took over.
Because of these things, it seems like big changes might not be possible in January unless a lot of money comes in from selling players. Since all Premier League clubs will be in the same situation in January, it might be tough to pull this off.
It’s possible that Amorim will have to accept that his first fix won’t be possible until the summer. At the moment, his job will be to get this current group of players to follow his philosophy, which is not an easy task.
