Before making a crazy Southampton forecast, Chris Sutton and Paul Merson praise Everton.

Chris Sutton thinks Sean Dyche’s “streetwise” Blues will test the “naive” Saints, while Paul Merson thinks Southampton’s style of play is only good for video games.

But neither of the experts thinks Everton will win this weekend when they go to the south coast to play a team that hasn’t won a Premier League game yet.

Because of this, a lot is at stake for Russell Martin’s team, who won a Carabao Cup spot shootout earlier this season at Goodison Park.

So, it looks like they think Southampton could learn something from their “must-win” game, even though both of them point out how easy it would be for Martin’s team to fall into Dyche’s trap.

At the start of the show on Sportskeeda, Merson doesn’t say much good about Southampton, but he still picks them to win.

He said this about Southampton: “Everton will know exactly how Southampton will want to play against them.” This shows that Everton may be too good for the home team. Sean Dyche will have a plan ready for the Saints to try to play out from the back, which is a risky move. Somers Town should be told that things like this only work on PlayStation.

“Everton has now won five straight games and is having a good run.” Southampton will be pressed, and I think it will only be a matter of time before Everton gets the ball and scores.

Sutton is also worried about Southampton’s style on the BBC, but he is honest about his opinion that Everton will keep their unbeaten streak going. On their last trip away from Merseyside, they beat Ipswich Town.

“It’s interesting to see how both teams play,” Sutton said. Southampton’s style of play under Russell Martin is seen by many as naive and dream football, while Sean Dyche’s team has the smarts and know how to play.

That’s why Dyche will have hope on Saturday, even if his team is behind late on. Just look at the games that Saints have lost, like the ones they lost to Leicester and Ipswich.

“I liked how Dyche switched things up by playing center back Michael Keane as a center forward against Fulham. His Everton team never gives up, so I think they will also win this game.”
