Australian punter for Alabama sends emotional message to Crimson Tide fans
Soon, another top expert from the University of Alabama’s football team will be going to the National Football League.
The Australian-born player joined the Crimson Tide in 2021 and has been the starting kicker ever since. It got better every year for him in terms of yards per punt, but this season has been especially good for him. Burnip punted for an average of 45 yards this year, and opponents could only return punts for an average of less than a yard. On 48 punts, he’s gained 2,155 yards and put 19 of them inside the 20-yard line of the other team. The 6-foot-6, 220 pound punter has had several tries go 50 yards or more. He is in the running for the Ray Guy Award, which is given to the best college football punter in the country. Burnip has a chance, but Scott has never won there.
It’s possible that Alabama will make the College Football Playoff. If they do, Burnip will be very useful on special teams.
He thanked the ‘Bama fans from the bottom of his heart for making him and his family feel welcome.
Fans of Alabama are grateful for what Burnip did during his time. After the season, he’s going to the Senior Bowl.
