Manchester United
As the Barcelona transfer battle heats up, Man City “definitely” wants to sign a long-term goal for Manchester United.
Reports say that Manchester City and Barcelona want to sign FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Manchester United was earlier linked with the player.
The Cityzens are looking for possible replacements for Ederson, their first-choice goalkeeper, who is being chased by teams from the Saudi Pro League.
When United was looking to replace David de Gea, they were very interested in Costa. There was talk that Costa would be going to Old Trafford in a big deal, but the move never happened because Andre Onana came in instead.
Sport in Spain says that Man City and Barcelona really want to sign Costa and that they could do so for €45m, which is about £37.5m or $48.6m.
The story says that Barcelona is “determined” to get a new goalkeeper before the start of the next season because they don’t know what will happen with Inaki Pena.
For Marc ter Stegen, who is hurt and might not be able to play again next season, the Catalans signed senior star Wojciech Szczesny to give them more options when he’s not healthy. But Szczesny is only a short-term fix, and he’s likely to quit next summer.
Costa is the top goalkeeper that Barcelona wants to sign, but Man City “definitely” wants to get him, according to the story.
Man City wants to sign for the long term Man United goal
Man City is interested in signing Costa at the same time that rumors are swirling about what will happen with City star Ederson.
They worked hard to get the great goalkeeper over the summer, but Al-Ittihad could never pay what City wanted for him. The Saudis won’t give up, though, and are likely to try again next summer.
The Brazilian international had agreed to a rich deal sent by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which was in charge of the talks on behalf of Al-Ittihad.
Ederson’s contract was set to end in 2026, so City may have one last chance to get a big transfer fee for him next summer. However, Guardiola did not want to let him go at the time.
Ederson was bought by City for €50m (£42.1m) in the summer, and they are likely to ask for the same amount again. If he leaves, Costa might be asked to take his place.
This race will be very close between City and Barcelona, but City would have the upper hand if Guardiola’s team decides to make a move.
New from Man City: Tottenham names Porro price and the Raphinha race is now on.
On the other hand, City wants to get a new right back to replace club leader Kyle Walker, who is 34 years old and nearing the end of his career.
According to reports, they have made Tottenham star Pedro Porro one of their top targets and are “laying the groundwork” for a possible move.
Tottenham will not let Porro leave for cheap, though. They will want at least £80m to sell him. While City wants Porro, Real Madrid will also be interested.
Tottenham is keeping an eye on the 25-year-old as a possible option for Dani Carvajal in case they can’t sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool.
Porro hasn’t played for City in an adult game since he left, so it’s unclear if he would be willing to return.
The amazing Barcelona winger Raphinha has been wanted by both City and Newcastle, according to reports.
City fans really like the former Leeds United player, but Al-Nassr will be very strong competition for his signing.
