Manchester City has not been exempt from the injury epidemic that has gripped the organization throughout the ongoing international break.

The ongoing European Championship qualifiers and the escalating World Cup qualifiers worldwide ensure that the football calendar remains non-stop. In the past week, the toll of so much football has become readily apparent.

During the international break thus far, a number of prominent players have been sidelined with injuries. While on international duty, both Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior and Barcelona midfielder Gavi sustained severe injuries. Winger Jarrod Bowen of West Ham has withdrew from the England roster on account of a knee injury. Son Heung-min of Tottenham was sidelined by an ankle injury in the midst of South Korea’s triumph over Singapore.

Manchester City has not been exempt from the increasing number of injuries. A foot injury was sustained by Erling Haaland during Norway’s friendly victory over the Faroe Islands. Matheus Nunes, Nathan Ake, Ederson, and Mateo Kovacic all withdrew from international duty due to numerous concerns. Due to pre-match distress, Rodri was unable to participate in Spain’s victory over Cyprus. They join a multitude of players in the history of international football who have opted to abstain from serving.

There is no doubt that the quantity of club and international football played contributes to the high number of injuries. Although injuries are an inherent aspect of the sport, there seems to be a correlation between the level of player demand and the acceleration of injury-related concerns.

In addition to club football, the UEFA Nations League, a midseason World Cup, qualifiers for the World Cup and European Championship, and additional international competitions render a four to six-week vacation at the conclusion of each season inadequate. As the season progresses, recuperation and rest periods become shorter, and competitions such as the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Champions League grow in size. Although players receive substantial compensation and enjoy numerous perks, they eventually require rest to recalibrate and recuperate from a lengthy and demanding season.

Pep Guardiola has hypothesized that the strikers’ actions could draw attention to the matter. Although that would constitute an extreme course of action, it might serve to raise awareness regarding the matter at hand.

As each season sees the addition of more games to the schedule, this is becoming an issue. A solution must eventually be discovered to prevent additional elite players from missing games due to their hectic schedules.
