October 20, 2018 — Yesterday, Arsenal lost their first Premier League game since April when William Saliba was sent off, resulting in a shocking 2-0 loss at Bournemouth. On the other hand, Manchester United beat Brentford 2-1, which took some pressure off Erik ten Hag.

Before the game on the south coast, Mikel Arteta’s team had gone 10 games without losing in all competitions. But that streak was broken in questionable conditions.

After thirty minutes, Arsenal defender Saliba was sent off for a professional hit on Evanilson. He was first given a yellow card, but after a VAR review, he was given a red card instead.

In the dying minutes, Ryan Christie scored for Bournemouth to put them ahead.

Arsenal lost for the first time in the league since April, when they lost 2-0 to Aston Villa. Justin Kluivert’s spot made sure of that.

It was a bad loss for Arsenal because they would have been in first place with a win but will now have to play Liverpool next weekend without Saliba, who is banned.

Liverpool will be four points ahead of third-placed Arsenal by then if they beat Chelsea at Anfield today.

Arteta said, “It’s quite hard to win in the Premier League with 10 men for an hour. An accident is just waiting to happen.”

“That cost us the game because we had to go through it three times.”

Ten Hag, the manager of United, slammed “fairy tales and lies” about his future at the club on Friday. The troubled boss claimed he was not in danger of being fired.

But most people think the 54-year-old is trying to keep his job after United’s worst start to a Premier League season since 1989–90.

When Ethan Pinnock scored with a strong header from a corner kick in the last few minutes of the first half, Brentford took the lead. Ten Hag was clearly about to be sacked.

Ten Hag was arrested for protesting Matthijs de Ligt’s forced absence to get care for a badly cut head. He was very angry about the goal.

But United came back in the 47th minute when Alejandro Garnacho met Marcus Rashford’s angled pass with a great strike into the top corner.

After Bruno Fernandes’ smart flick, Rasmus Hojlund scored the game-winning second goal in the 62nd minute with a calm finish.

“Stressed? That’s always the case, Ten Hag said. “We need to win every game, so when we’re down 1-0, we need to figure out how to get back on track.”

“We thought something was unfair, and that will fuel us for the second half.” Two great goals were made.

United climbed up to 11th place with their win, which was their third in eight league games this season and their first in six games overall.

Spurs on the beat

Tottenham got back on track with a 4-1 win over West Ham. This made up for their recent slump in which they lost 3-2 at Brighton.

After Mohammed Kudus scored the first goal for West Ham, Dejan Kulusevski scored to tie the game before halftime.

Tottenham scored three goals in the second half—one by Yves Bissouma, one by West Ham goalie Alphonse Areola, and a fourth by Son Heung-min.

Danny Welbeck had a rough day. He scored the game-winning goal in the 35th minute, but later had to be carried off with a back injury that required a breathing mask. This moved Brighton up to fifth place.

Leicester came back from being down two goals to win 3-2 at Southampton, who had not won in their previous four games.

In the first half, Cameron Archer and Joe Aribo scored for the hosts, who are at the bottom of the table.

Then Facundo Buonanotte scored to tie the game, and after Ryan Fraser was sent off, Jamie Vardy scored a penalty to make it even. In the eighth minute of stoppage time, Jordan Ayew scored the winning goal.

Fourth place After beating Fulham 3-1, Aston Villa is off to its best start in 26 years.

After Raul Jimenez scored in the fifth minute, Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Issa Diop’s own goal helped Villa score three goals in a row.

Emiliano Martinez stopped a penalty kick from Andreas Pereira for Villa. Joachim Andersen for Fulham and Jaden Philogene for Villa were both sent off.

With a 2-0 win over Ipswich, Everton got their first away win in 16 games across all categories. — AFP
