Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao has reportedly attracted the attention of Arsenal prior to the January transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano has now provided CaughtOffside with an update regarding the 21-year-old’s whereabouts.

As reported by 90Min in October, the Gunners are among a number of Premier League clubs that have initiated inquiries regarding Williams.

In addition to Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Aston Villa are reportedly monitoring the Spaniard.

The agent for the rumored target of the Gunners stated this week that neither he nor his client had received a contract proposal from Athletic.

Williams’ contract expires at the conclusion of the current season, which Romano describes as a “dangerous situation” for the La Liga club.

Additionally, the transfer informant offered his personal assessment of the rumored Arsenal target, stating that he is among the continent’s most gifted wingers.

“We heard some intriguing words from Nico Williams’ agent,” Romano wrote.

“The Athletic Bilbao star’s speed, ability to score, and capacity to provide assists make him one of the most gifted wingers in Europe.”

“Unsurprisingly, he has also been linked with a number of major clubs, as I consider him to be an extremely underrated talent with tremendous potential.”

“What, then, is the situation?” His agent, Felix Tainta, has made it plain that his client does not wish to leave Athletic Bilbao on a free transfer; however, they have not yet received a contract offer from the club.

“At this point in November, approaching December, there is still no agreement; therefore, Athletic is in a perilous situation and must act swiftly.

“Williams’ contract expires at the conclusion of the current campaign; he can negotiate a deal in January to join the team as a free agent for the following season.”

“Continuation under a long-term contract containing a release clause worth €50 million (£43 million) was the intention; therefore, the outcome shall be observed.”

Arsenal could do with acquiring a replacement for Saka, whose workload has been absolutely overwhelming in recent years.

Williams is an exceptionally talented individual whose contract situation merits close attention. Although he appears to prefer to remain at Athletic, the Gunners must seize the opportunity if it presents itself.

Although he currently plays primarily on the left wing, he is right-footed and has spent the majority of his career on the right flank of the attack.

One goal and five assists in ten La Liga contests make up the 21-year-old’s impressive performance thus far this season.

Williams is “one of the most promising attacking talents in Europe,” according to 90Min. He has been described by his sibling Inaki as a “incredible” athlete.
