Arsenal responds to the FA following the VAR chaos at Newcastle by ultimately releasing the controversial goal audio.
Arsenal has issued a statement in response to the FA’s comments concerning the controversial VAR-awarded goal scored by Anthony Gordon.
Arsenal corresponded with the FA after their draw with Newcastle, expressing their endorsement of Mikel Arteta’s comments concerning VAR. The Gunners’ Premier League winning sequence was ended by Anthony Gordon’s highly contentious goal, which was three times reviewed by VAR prior to its awarding.
Following the game, Arteta delivered an impassioned tirade at the post-press conference, and a club statement subsequently corroborated his claims. He told reporters, “We must discuss the outcome because you must discuss how the hell this goal stands up; it’s incredible.”
“Although it disgusts me, I am compelled to come here immediately in an effort to defend the team and politely request assistance, as the fact that this goal is allowed is abhorrent. Because it is not a goal, or rather, it is not for a single purpose, but rather for several reasons.
“Too much is at stake in this situation; it is not a goal.” Once more, residing in this country for over two decades has filled me with disgrace, and this competition is by no means the most prestigious in the world. My apologies. PGMOL chief Howard Webb appeared live on television to share the audio from Stockley Park and discuss contentious decisions in an effort to be transparent regarding the decisions.
Amid much debate surrounding Gordon’s goal, the VAR team’s review of the St. James’ Park match is slated to be presented to the public for the first time since the incident occurred over ten days ago.
The Mail reports that Arsenal was allegedly notified beforehand that the VAR audio replay of Gordon’s goal was scheduled to broadcast on Tuesday, November 15. This article also reported that Arsenal and Arteta had responded to the FA subsequent correspondence in an effort to elucidate Arteta’s post-match remarks.
While the specific details of the reply remain undisclosed, it is conceivable that they have fortified their stance in response to the support of additional Premier League managers. Conversely, the situation could have easily been reversed if both Arteta and Arsenal expressed regret for their actions.
