Arsenal icon rates who is the better player between Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka. His choice will shock you

The England national team’s strategy during the group stages is to play football that is entirely uninspiring, yet they manage to advance to the knockouts due to the easiness of their group.

Cole Palmer, the attacking midfielder for Chelsea, was a rare bright light off the bench in their most recent 0-0 draw with Slovenia, capitalising on a 19-minute cameo in the process.

Palmer, who scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists for Chelsea last season, has yet to start a match for England at Euro 2024, which is a source of frustration. However, at this juncture, there is an overwhelming demand for him to be included in the starting lineup.

Palmer and Anthony Gordon should be the starting players for England as attacking difference-makers, as they have recently been the finest players in the Premier League at their respective positions.

Palmer is garnering support from all quarters, including, to his surprise, the Arsenal circle. A Gunners’ club icon believes that Gareth Southgate should sacrifice one of his club’s stars to facilitate Palmer on the right wing.

Certainly, Ian Wright, a former Arsenal attacker, is of the opinion that England should transfer Arsenal’s right winger Bukayo Saka to left back in order to allow Cole Palmer, a right winger and attacking midfielder, to begin on the right side of the England attack.

Wright stated, “I am contemplating how we will obtain Palmer’s inclusion on the team if that is the case.” If that is the case, it may be possible to place Saka at left-back and Palmer on the right-hand side, given Saka’s natural left-handedness. For the simple reason that we must achieve a sense of equilibrium and fluidity in the game.

Saka has previously served as a left back and is capable of performing satisfactorily in that capacity. It is feasible for Arsenal’s star to serve as a substitute for Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier, as England lacks a genuine left back, with the exception of the injured Luke Shaw.

The broader statement of a two-time Arsenal Player of the Season choosing Chelsea’s best player over Arsenal’s best player in their preferable position for the national team is a significant one.

It is a reasonable assertion, as Wright believes that Chelsea’s Palmer provides more to the England national team than Arsenal’s Saka, as evidenced by the supporters’ observations at Euro 2024.

Saka’s performance against Serbia was subpar, as he failed to generate any opportunities. He also performed poorly in the draw with Denmark and was utterly ineffective in the 0-0 stalemate with Slovenia.

Palmer was arguably superior to Saka last season, as he scored six more goals and provided two more assists, despite playing fewer minutes, and has provided more of a jolt.
