Jurgen Klopp was compelled to withdraw the Liverpool forward from his altercation with the Manchester City manager at the conclusion of the match.

At the Etihad Stadium, a confrontation seemed to ensue between Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as the final whistle sounded for their match.

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of the Reds, was observed removing Nunez, who was introduced late in the Premier League match, from the altercation. At one point, Klopp placed his palm on Nunez’s mouth. A number of coaches representing both organizations intervened in an effort to restore order to the situation.

In the post-match press conferences this afternoon, both managers attempted to downplay the incident, which remains unclear as to what precipitated the confrontation.

Guardiola did not make any allusion to the incident in his post-match remarks to Sky. Instead, he stated, “Excellent performance; thus, after eight years, we are still facing an incredible, top-tier team, and the manner in which we recommenced the match was outstanding. We exhibited remarkable proficiency in our build-up, which required considerable patience and frequent confidence in making the correct choice.

“Yes, sometimes we missed the last pass or last shot but we had deflections and typical things so I think it’s a big compliment to the way we work.”

The table’s leading two players engaged in a tense 1-1 stalemate. Erling Haaland broke the record for the earliest player to reach 50 Premier League goals with a goal in the first half, but Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late equalizer ensured a share of the spoils.
