An ex-Steelers starter gets a new chance with the Texans

NEWARK, NJ — Kendrick Green was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. They had high hopes for the offensive lineman. The player from the University of Illinois was thought to be the team’s future centre. During his last season, he even had the chance to work with legendary quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Green’s time with the Steelers didn’t go as planned. They thought he would be a good fit at centre, but he wasn’t, and he quickly lost his spot on the line and on the squad. He was moved to the Houston Texans in 2023, but he hasn’t proven himself as a strong offensive line starter yet. The 25-year-old is about to start his fourth season in the NFL. He is now getting a second chance with the Texans.

Kenyon Green, the Texans’ starting left guard, got hurt during their latest game against the New York Jets and will likely miss most, if not all, of the rest of the games this season. Because Kenyon was hurt, Kendrick Green had to fill in for him.

After that, Kendrick Green played the rest of the game against the Jets at left guard. His performance as a reliever was good, and he’ll probably stay there while his friend heals. Now that he’s on his second team and has no other choices, this could be his last chance to make things right in the NFL.

The Texans will depend on Green a lot if he gets more starts. The team lost to the Jets and is now 6-3, but they are still in first place in the AFC South. They are ahead of the Indianapolis Colts by two games, but the division will probably be very close until the last week of the season. And the person who was kicked off the Steelers has a chance to be a big part of it as part of his story of recovery.
