As his off-season in Slovenia comes to an end, Tadej Pogačar is getting ready to start real training for the 2025 season.

On Monday, at an awards show called “Evening of the Stars” that celebrated the 75th anniversary of his old team KD Rog, the world champion talked about his plans for the rest of the year.

After winning the award for best Slovenian cyclist for the fifth year in a row, Pogačar told Siol.net that he will soon go to Spain to train with UAE Team Emirates.

“I have a few more official events ahead of me, but then I will slowly go to the first December preparations with the team in warmer places, where we will start serious training,” said he.

He told RTVSlo, “There’s a set way I have to train these days for the new season.” Our weather has been very cold lately, and I don’t feel like going to exercise. It makes me happy to go to these kinds of events, though. I have already won a few awards for being the best biker, but I still enjoy these more and more every year.

During a great 2024 season, PogaÍar won 25 races, including the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, Il Lombardia, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. He told Siol that his first world title was the most important one.

“There were so many great wins, and they were all in big races, that I can’t pick just one.” “But the win with the national team at the World Championships is a little more important,” he said.

“I’ve already defend my win a number of times.” Things went well and badly at times, and they will continue to do so next year. Some people think that only the World Championships [in Rwanda, Ed.] will stand out because it’s a unique race and only a few people have won it twice in a row. That’s something that only the best riders have done.

“The World Championships is likely to be the hardest race to defend.” But I’ll be even happier if I try to win races I haven’t started yet.

Furthermore, Pogačar talked about his plans for the coming season while also thinking back on the current one. Along with trying to win the rainbow jersey again, the main goal will be to win a fourth Tour de France title.

Nevertheless, he said that a bid for Paris-Roubaix is not planned at this time. Instead, he is expected to concentrate on winning his first Vuelta a España.

Already, the 26-year-old has said that he thinks next season will be “even better” than the very successful one he had in 2024. “I’m excited about new projects.” I enjoy riding my bike and being outside. “It’s easy to get yourself going,” he said last week.

Adding that he isn’t looking at his competitors to get motivated right now, he said that he just wants to keep getting better, like his main Tour rival Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike).

“I know he trains and wants to be better than previous years, but I have the same idea in mind – that I will be at least as good as I was this year.”
